US President Donald Trump and executives from Anthropic, Google, Meta, OpenAI, Nvidia and xAI signed a voluntary accord on advanced AI safety at the White House on September 29. The document sets out safeguards companies say they will use as they develop and deploy AI systems.
According to the text reported by The Associated Press, companies will put internal controls in place and assign teams to check whether those controls are working. They also pledged to have independent external auditors review the safeguards and submit audit reports to a committee within each company’s board.
The accord was signed by Trump, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, OpenAI President Greg Brockman, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and xAI founder Elon Musk. Trump said the industry should rely on self-policing, while Amodei said the technology carries real risks and that the mechanism for addressing them was still under discussion.
The document relies on companies setting up their own safety controls and arranging outside audits. The Guardian reported that it contains no legal enforcement mechanism and does not require companies to make findings public. The accord does not specify how auditors will be selected or how implementation will be monitored.

This is a voluntary company commitment. The absence of a legal enforcement mechanism and public disclosure requirement is based on The Guardian’s review of the document. No results showing implementation have yet been published.
The choice of external auditors, audit schedule and publication of findings remain unspecified.
