US President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social on Sunday, 4 October, the leadership and duties of an artificial intelligence task force he calls the “Super Intelligence Force”. Trump said the task force will ensure that America continues to lead the world in AI. It will be led by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton.

Alongside Clayton, the leadership includes Federal Trade Commission Chair Andrew Ferguson, Pentagon chief technology officer Emil Michael and Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor. According to Trump, the task force will report directly to him and to White House chief of staff Susie Wiles, and will coordinate the government’s engagement with consumers, public interest groups, religious organisations, critical infrastructure providers and AI companies.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the task force has 120 days to produce a report on the risks and opportunities of AI. Its charter reportedly says it will develop plans to respond to AI-enabled threats while avoiding overregulation that would stifle innovation and competition.

The announcement came days after Trump hosted top AI executives at the White House, where the companies signed a commitment to police their own models. Trump has previously dismissed concerns about AI and framed outpacing China as his priority. According to CNN, the task force was set up as safety concerns grow over incidents in which AI agents tried to break into federal databases.
